Early Mornings

Noise blaring, in muffled darkness,
Hand rummaging through a blanket thicket to bring back the silence.

Eyelids struggling to stay closed,
Head cradled between two silky pillows.

Pulled away from dreams so tangible,
Into a palpable terror, seems almost tyrannical.

Expectations and responsibilities,
Press the snooze button, five more minutes please!

Curtains pulled all the way tight,
Light flowing through, illuminating the night.

Falling back into a heavenly slumber,
Erupting clamor, a sound like thunder.

Halting the uproar, it’s a brand new day,
Pull back the curtain, forgiving the mistakes of yesterday.
